WHAT IS MAXXI?
The first national institution in Italy dedicated to modern creativity is MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts. The Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities established a foundation in July 2009 to oversee MAXXI, which is envisioned as a wide cultural complex.
MAXXI's mission as a venue for the conservation and display of its collections, as well as, and above all, as a laboratory for cultural experimentation and innovation, for the study, research, and production of the aesthetic contents of our time, is reflected in the programming of its events, which include exhibitions, workshops, conferences, shows, projections, and educational projects.
Located in Rome's Flaminio neighborhood, the MAXXI building is a significant architectural creation by Zaha Hadid that boasts stunning and inventive forms.
MY EXPERIENCE
While on my study abroad in Rome, Italy, I was fortunate enough to visit a wide variety of museums ranging from contemporary art to ancient monumental pieces. As a class, we were tasked to visit the museums and create posters for their grand openings of specific exhibits that adequately described their presence as a museum.

NICO VASCELLARI, FALENA (My chosen exhibition)
Falena by Nico Vascellari drew me in right away with its sharp, lively edges and contrasted forms. Inspired by these visual elements, I wanted to create a poster that emphasized this contrast and the tension between harsh lines and organic shape. To achieve this, I focused on a minimalist design approach, employing a grid system for structure and balance. The layout's simplicity made the form's sharp edges the focal point, and the color scheme intensifies the contrast. By drawing a parallel between the aggressive geometry of the piece and the museum's name, Maxxi, I also hoped to create a visual connection between the artwork and its surroundings. The result is a design that speaks to both the visual intensity of Falena and the concept behind its display.
